What To Do After A Car Accident

The best way to handle an accident is to be prepared for one. Here's a list of things you can do to be ready for whatever happens on the road:

• Keep an emergency kit in your car at all times. These include items such as a flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, basic tool kit, flares, water, and a blanket.
• Keep important information in your glovebox. This would be your vehicle registration, insurance, and emergency contacts.
• Make sure your phone is always charged!

At the scene of an accident:

• Take a deep breath and stay calm.
• Check all people involved for injuries; call an ambulance when in doubt. Even a minor symptom such as dizziness could require medical attention.
• If the accident is minor, move the cars to a safe place out of the way of traffic. Make sure the car is in park and it is safe to get out.
• Turn on your hazard lights and use cones, warning triangles or flares for safety. This lets other drivers know your car is parked and not going anywhere any time soon.
